Home For The Holidays Presentation Stage - 2010
presented by Splenda
| Anna Olson |
Pastry chef and co-owner of Olson Foods Host of Food Network's "Sugar" and "Fresh" |
 |
Anna Olson will be on the Home For The Holidays Presentation Stage and will be recreating some of her famous recipes utilizing SPLENDA® Brand products.
“Delicious” is how Anna describes the variety of her days. From hosting Fresh with Anna Olson on Food Network, to writing recipes for print media or her latest cookbook, Anna craves that every day be different but tantalizing.
Whether writing, hosting, or spending her days as owner of two Niagara-based food operations (Olson Foods at Port in the scenic lakeside community of Port Dalhousie and partner in Olson Foods at Ravine on the property of the new and acclaimed Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery), Anna likes connecting with people. “It’s not me who calls the trends in foods; it’s those who make my recipes or come into the stores and tell me what they like or what they’re looking for who decide what’s popular” says Anna.
And in her spare time, Anna cooks some more. She donates much time to local charities and enjoys downtime with her husband, Michael, in the kitchen cooking and laughing.
Catch Fresh with Anna Olson Wednesdays at 4:30pm PT on Food Network. For more information on Fresh with Anna Olson visit http://foodnetwork.ca/fresh.
Anna Olson originally hails from Atlanta, Georgia, but considers herself a Canadian gal, as she was raised in Toronto and has lived in Niagara for over 10 years. A degree in Political Studies and Sociology from Queen’s University in Kingston helped Anna hone her writing skills, but it wasn’t until she pursued her true passion for cooking at Johnson & Wales University in Vail, Colorado, that she really found her calling.
Anna spent some time working in Colorado, Texas, and New Orleans before being drawn to the cooking styles of Michael Olson at Inn on the Twenty in Jordan. She fell madly in love with his respectful approach to cooking using local and seasonal ingredients, and then fell madly in love with Michael! They were married in 1999.
After leaving Inn on the Twenty as pastry chef, Anna moved into the medium of television as host of Sugar on Food Network Canada. Sugar,an approachable all-dessert show, ran for five seasons and well over a hundred episodes. Additionally, Anna successfully hosted Kitchen Equipped a kitchen renovation series for two seasons which aired on both Food Network Canada and HGTV. Anna’s latest series Fresh with Anna Olson features Anna in the comfort of her Niagara Region country home, preparing delicious and accessible recipes based on her personal mantra “eat fresh, eat local.”
In addition to television, Anna also explores print media. The Inn on the Twenty Cookbook was co-authored with her husband and published in 2000. Following the success of the show, Sugar, Anna published a book of the same name in 2004, and followed up with the successful Another Cup of Sugar, in October 2006. In fall 2005, Anna and her husband released their second co-authored cookbook, Anna and Michael Olson Cook at Home – a menu-driven cookbook that highlights how the Olson’s cook at home, with loads of tips and tricks for ease in entertaining and weeknight dining; the book was nominated by Cuisine Canada for Cookbook of the Year. Anna also freelance writes for various publications including Vines, LCBO Food & Drink, and writes a regular column with Michael for the St. Catharines Standard newspaper.

| Anthony Sedlak |
Executive Chef, The Corner Suite Bistro De Luxe, Vancouver, Canada
Host, The Main, Food Network Canada
Author, The Main - Recipes
|
To say that Chef Anthony Sedlak is a precocious talent is an understatement.
At just 13 he traded a shift in a café atop Grouse Mountain ski resort in Vancouver, Canada for a snow boarding pass, and discovered a love of food and the restaurant experience that would rapidly shape his future. By 19 he completed both a Culinary Arts Program and his four-year apprenticeship and quickly emerged a leader in The Observatory, Grouse Mountain's flagship dining room.
Knowing European kitchen experience would be critical to his development as a star Chef; the teenager spent almost two years at La Trompette, a southern French, and Michelin Star restaurant in London, England. As Sedlak worked up the line from his entry level role to, eventually executive Sous chef, he learned how a hardcore professional kitchen team works, refined his French culinary techniques and adopted La Trompette's hard-bitten, uncompromising commitment to excellence.
At 23, Sedlak represented Canada at the Hans Bueschken World Junior Chef Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand, returning home with silver. Later that year Anthony competed in, and won Food Network's Superstar Chef Challenge. He has since hosted four seasons of his own show on Food Network Canada called The Main. The Main is a stylish half-hour of mouth-watering, visually appetizing dishes. In each episode Anthony prepares a main course featuring one main ingredient. The food is rustic, the ingredients readily available and the recipes simple to follow - leaving the viewer inspired to recreate each main at home. Anthony went onto write a cookbook based on the series and just 9 months on the shelf sales have made Sedlak a Canadian Best Selling Author.
Now, at the ripe age of 26, he is the Executive Chef of The Corner Suite Bistro De Luxe. The menu is French at heart including such signature dishes as Terrine De Campagne with Onion Marmalade or Crispy Pig's Ear & Roasted Sweetbreads with Shallot & Parsley Sauce.
Anthony is putting his own kitchen dream team together and working closely with Corner Suite owners Andre McGillivray and Steve Da Cruz. Sedlak has a new Food Network series in development, and like all strong culinary brands, is planning his own product line.
"I am devoted to simple classics and top-shelf ingredients," says Sedlak. "I'm passionate about simple flavors and flawless technique and want to wow the connoisseurs looking for a whole story behind the dishes we present. Trends come and go, classics are forever"
The Corner Suite Bistro De Luxe opened November, 2009. The Main is seen weekdays on Food Network Canada.
